Sundarbans Or Sundarban National Park Kolkata
The name of Sundarbans comes from Sundari tree. The Sundarbans National Park is one of the most famous national parks in India, which known as the Tiger Reserve, Biosphere Reserve and Mangrove Forest. It is the largest Ganges Delta in the world. The Delta consists of 54 small islands and is completely covered by mangrove forests. It extends from the mouth of the Hooghly to the mouth of the Meghna River for about 266 kilometers (165 miles), with a total area of 16,900 square kilometers (6,526 square miles), including water.
It was declared a National Park by the Government of India in 1984 and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. The park is located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
This Sundarbans is divided between India and Bangladesh. About 60% of the Sundarbans delta is located in Bangladesh and the remaining 40% is located in India. This region contains ecological and wonderful flora and fauna. It is basically one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in Bengal. There are also a variety of insects, birds, reptiles, mammals and endangered species of animals and plants.
The beauty of this mangrove forest is reflected in the plants and animals. These mangrove forests are home to a wide variety of ecosystems, plants and diverse animals.
Name Of Plant In Sundarbans National Park
There are more than 64 species of special mangroves in the region, with a specialized root called Pneumatophores, which rises above the ground and assists respiration. When the whole forest is waterlogged during the rainy season or during the tide, the spikes from the soil are at the top of the air and aid in the process of respiration. Not only are there mangrove trees, there are different species of trees scattered in this Sundarbans National Park such as Dhundal, Goran, Genwa, Kankra, Sundari, and Pasur etc.
Sudarbans National Park Animals
There are more than 400 Bengal tigers in the Sundarbans, which is nowhere else in the world. The tigers here are famous for swimming in the water, hunting methods and their food eating processes. Cats, Cheetahs, Chitals, Fishing Cats, Flying Foxes, Foxes, Indian Gray Mongooses, Macaws, and Wild Boars etc. are found in the Sundarbans apart from the Bengal Tiger.
There are different species of birds in this region. Birds include Blackhead Ibis, Coats, Crows, Carp, Doves, Eagles, Hens, Jacanas, Kingfishers, Knots, Openbill Storks and Pigeons. There are also different species of birds whose names are still unknown.
There are numerous reservoirs or rivers all around. There are different aquatic animals scattered in these reservoirs. Aquatic animals include Butterfish, Common Carp, Common Toad, Frog, Gangetic Dolphin, Horse Leopard, Safflower, Shrimp, Silver Carp and Starfish.
Among the reptiles are Crocodile, Chameleon, Hawksbill, Lizard, King Cobra, Olive Rodley, Pit Viper, Python, Rat, Russell's Viper and Tortoise.
Extinct species include Ganges Dolphin, Hawksbill Turtle, Mangrove Horse Horso, Olive Rodley Tartin, River Terapin, Royal Bengal Tiger and Saltwater Crocodile.

The Royal Bengal Tiger is the deadliest tiger in the world. This Royal Bengal Tiger enhances the beauty of this forest and captivates the tourists. This species is found only in this Sundarbans sanctuary. At present its number has come down to at least 400. Their white-yellow striped spots, hunting techniques, sighting techniques, playing with their own children are very attractive. Poachers are catching them for money and selling them various necessities. As a result, their species is on the verge of extinction.

The only means of Sundarbans safari is bot or lunch. Because there is no road to the Sundarbans, the river is the only road. You can go to the deep forest by boat or lunch along this river path. This safari first starts from the famous city of Kolkata, Diamond Harbor or Canning. After hours of bot or lance safaris, one by one the sights begin. These are Buridabari Watch Tower, Bhagatpur Crocodile Project, Crocodile Breeding Farm, Dobanki Watch Tower, Jambudwip, Haldia Island, Kanak, Netidhopani Watch Tower, Sagar Island, Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary and Sudhanyakali Watch Tower.
Sundarbans National Park Best Time To Visit
The Sundarbans is also located on the coast of the Bay of Bengal so the temperature here is always changing. The summer season is very hot. During the monsoon season, the Sundarbans transport is totally closed. The best time to visit the Sundarbans is from September to March.
