The Victoria Memorial is one of the most unique architectural monuments in India. The monument is a huge white marble building in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It built between 1906 and 1911 in memory of Queen Victoria. It rained over about 64 acres (260,000 m2) of land, including the garden. Today it has become a well museum. It is one of the best tourist destinations in India. Every year in December many tourists come from far and wide.
Victoria Memorial Kolkata History
Queen Victoria died in January, 1901. The first Baron Curzon of Kedleston suggested building a memorial, so that everyone would remember her even after her death. But Lord Curzon proposed to build a museum with a garden decorated with her used items.
King George - V began work on the installation on January 4, 1908, and was opened to the public in 1921. The monument was erected with the help of the British government. At that time the total cost of construction of this monument was about one crore, five lakh rupees (₹ - 01,05,000).
Victoria Memorial Kolkata Architecture
The Victoria Memorial was designed by William Emerson, who was president of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The design has been adapted from the Indo-Saracenic Renaissance. It is 338/228 feet (103/69 meters) wide and 184 feet (56 meters) high. At the top of the central dome is a 16-feet (4.9 m) victory angel image.
Victoria Memorial Gallery
The Victoria Memorial has 25 galleries. These include the Arms or Armory Gallery, Calcutta Gallery, Central Hall, National Leading Gallery, Royal Gallery, Portrait Gallery and Sculpture Gallery etc. These galleries contain a variety of historical monuments, books and various types of pictures etc.
Victoria Memorial Kolkata Museum
The Victoria Memorial is now one of the best museums in Kolkata. The museum has about 25 galleries of all things used by Queen Victoria. Not only the Queen Victoria Memorial thing but there is much more to see here. Among them Arms, Bronze Coins, Chair, Gun, Paintings, Pottery, Scrap Books, Sculptures, Stone, Tables, Textiles, Weapons and other artifacts etc.
Victoria Memorial Park
Scattered around the Victoria Memorial is a huge park surrounded by greenery. Which further enhanced the beauty of the Victoria Memorial. The park was designed by Redsdale and David Pren. The entrance to the park was designed by Vincent Jerome. There are rows of small and beautiful trees, a variety of flowering trees, small ponds and large trees taking up residence. Where you can spend your leisure time.

The Victoria Memorial is an important tourist destination for Indians or Foreigners. We Indians all know about this monument. This has made the name of Kolkata even brighter. Reconstruction is not possible once this building is destroyed. So I urge everyone not to abuse this British architecture to preserve it.
